Pros
Easy to get a VISA. Many translators. Talented foreign staff
Cons
-ridiculously low pay, most of my coworkers were denied raises on their 2nd contract while barely making a living wage. The workers at a starbucks nearby make more money than many of the staff at PPI -people working 10-12 hours or more a day with no OT pay, often expected that you do so and frowned upon to leave on time. -no benefits, and if you do receive benefits your salary is reduced, which makes it pointless. -basically no pipeline, outdated software, refuses to upgrade. Still using mental ray for many projects. -frequent, pointless meetings. I usually had 2 hours of meetings a day, sometimes 3 or 4 hours. I can't recall any time these meetings were neccessary. You end up wasting a large portion of your day listening to things that could be simply sent in an email, or told to you in a minute at your desk. It was a boring, massive waste of time. -people promoted to the highest roles often have embarrassingly low CG knowledge. I've met students with more knowledge than many of the CG supervisors/directors. But they will pretend to know what they are doing to hold onto their position. So you will be expected to clean up their messes. I often recieved requests that were the dumbest I've seen in my career. -pretty much everything is outsourced. PPI actually produces less than half of the work on all their shows. More than 50% of the work is outsourced on all shows, including most or all of the main characters, sets, and props. I very rarely got an enjoyable task as they were all outsourced, even after requesting to work on them. -overmanagement. I've never been hassled by PMs at any other company as I was here. Many PMs don't understand the industry snd make ridiculous requests.
