Pros
Thought I knew about marketing before I graduated college since I put myself through college as the marketing director of a fast food chain as well as a 1099 freelance consultant. However, I learned more than I had expected by learning the marketing systems. Before I was able to generate as many leads and close deals for my clients as I am now. And I had no idea how to have effective conversations that made me a much stronger trainer.
Cons
I had to humble myself coming from having 5 years of marketing and 4 years of management. I understand promotion from within only and my dad is a successful entrepreneur, so to anyone who has that old school mentality, I could see how they could be confused. Not everyone is cut out to be outside their comfort zone and totally understands different areas of business and why we can grow this fast. But I also don't want to wait 5-10 years for a promotion. So 6 months - 1 year to get into management is nothing!
