Pros

Cashiers get paid more on average here than at other cashier positions at other companies because they have to be precise and do more than just push stuff across a register scanner. I've been with Sam's Club for 5+ years now and I consider their pay very fair considering that I have a 4 year degree and haven't been able to find real work in my industry's field for which I graduated...so this is a great job for me because it is stable & very predictable pay. Being that Sam's Club is a low-cost shop competitor people (customers/members) are always going to need stuff and will flock to the store that offers truly every day low prices. Also having to pay to be a member of Sam's Club builds customer loyalty and pretty much guarantees that member will come shop @ Sam's Club as opposed to other stores. The management is great & will work with you once you're hired as far as schedule conflicts are concerned if you're a hard working individual.

Cons

As of September 2012 there were some issues with Sam's Club transitioning from a manually-inputed schedule to an automated computer scheduling system based around customer's needs. The computer system would completely fail to schedule one person, for example, to be working in a certain department for an entire day or the first half of it. But like I said it is based around customer needs so if last year there were no sales for clothing between opening and closing...today it more than likely wouldn't schedule an associate to work in that department, even tho people will probably have questions about clothing for example. Cashier turn-over is very high. I think part of this is cashiers tend to be younger people going to school and paying their dues...and because people get burned out with the pressure to not only check customers out but also having to sell certain membership benefits like upgrades to Plus and Credit Cards. A cashier is required to also sell membership upgrades to the Plus Membership at their checkout register. This can be stressful at times because of pressure to get however many are required for that cashier during their shift. Be prepared to push selling Plus and develop a salesman personality.

Pros

At the corporate level, the benefits and compensation are excellent. Colleagues at the producer level are standout teammates, talented, collaborative, and genuinely invested in the company's success. They consistently bring forward meaningful contributions and make the day-to-day work rewarding.

Cons

"Chaos" is not a word I'm using loosely. It's the word echoed across teams, including outside of Experience and Product. Leadership operates in a constant state of upheaval: frequent role changes, structural reorganizations, and strategy pivots that are implemented without any clear plan or consideration of cross-team impact. Incredibly talented people are let go as a result of poor leadership and people management decisions. There is no real culture of mentorship above the senior manager level. Leadership above the senior manager level made clear that mentorship isn't their responsibility and that you're expected to figure it out on your own, despite the company having training resources available. That disconnect is telling.
