Pros

Great mission! A good group of people in most positions. New CEO that is very mission-driven.

Cons

The culture is lacking. Overall, no transparency in leadership. New employees will show up to work with no announcement to rest of staff. Management has changed job descriptions of current employees with no input from the employee and with a sense of urgency (pushing employees out). HR and directors will "sneak" new rules, policies, or less benefits into the employee manual and rush employees to sign. Very bureaucratic, political, and sneaky. On most teams there is a 1:1 or 1:2 manager:employee ratio, which results in a lot of managing (and sometimes micro-managing) with very little leadership/mentorship. Most employees have very little autonomy or decision-making power. High turnover - the organization has lost the majority of staff over the past 1-2 years.

Pros

Lovely people, company growing and evolving as a group. The drive and determination to make this happen is a joy to be part of.

Cons

Not enough time, people or resources - typical for a non-profit!

Pros

I started at SeriousFun within the last year and I regularly tell people who ask that I wish I had made the move to this organization even sooner. I was very cautious and selective when considering leaving my former job, which I loved. Some of the Glassdoor reviews for SeriousFun, as you can see, didn't paint it in the best light. When I began the interview process, it quickly became obvious to me that this was not the organization described by some of the more negative reviews. Still cautious, I was offered and accepted the job here, and I can honestly say that I haven't had a mediocre, nevermind bad, day yet. My colleagues are super bright, they work hard, and they are very passionate about the mission and about helping to maintain and increase the very positive office/organizational culture here. Leadership, especially the CEO (now in his fourth year), is more collaborative, creative and open to feedback than I have experienced at any of my former employers. The issues noted in previous reviews, while perhaps valid to some extent, seem to have been resolved or are on their way to being resolved.

Cons

Not so much a con, but a challenge...SeriousFun is a small nonprofit organization with limited resources. Leadership and staff members must be creative in their approaches to problem-solving, and also be willing and able to wear multiple hats at times. This works well and fits for me and many of my colleagues here, but it is certainly something to think about if you are considering working at SeriousFun.
