Do Not leave a good job to work here - Inside Sales SolarCity Employee Review

Pros

The product is good and really does help the majority of customers save money and reduce polution. The office is in town square which is nice.

Cons

Its a telemarketing job. You will spend 8 hours a day trying to convince people to sign a 20 year contract over the phone. You get paid at installation and 1/2 of your sales will cancel on you through no fault of your own due to roofs in poor condition or electrical problems with the home. Inside sales has over 100% annual attrition rate, you are not special if you get talked into working here you will be looking for a new job in six months. I quit because the salary figures I was told to expect were bs, there might be 5 people at most making more than 50k in the vegas office of 100s and NO ONE makes anything close to six figures. There is no opportunity for advancement. Last month they demoted 20% of their managers on a whim and since I have worked here 1/2 of the cubicles have gone from being occupied to empty, its a very chilling daily reminder of the sinking ship that is solarcity.

Pros

Just to quantify my review a bit, I am within the top 10% of inside sales reps within our 12,000 person company. It is a great place to work and people doing well ARE able to make good money here. The executive team ALWAYS has a platform for reps to help make SolarCity a better place every quarter. They involve the top 20 reps each quarter in various ways to help their peers through an interactive group called Team Elite. Executives, VP's, Directors, and Managers are always willing to help and go to bat when there are issues with things that need to be fixed. The direction of the company is consistent and although the company is large, decision makers work as hard as possible to steer the big ship quickly when necessary.

Cons

Knee jerk reactions with decision making at a director level create issues from time to time. Culture has had its ups and downs due to HUGE growth last year and subsequent high attrition rates.
