Pros

You get full benefits, even if you work part-time. The ONLY reason to work in the call center is if you are a student and need a part-time job. The only reason to work at State Farm is if you have given up.

Cons

I cannot name any names because I do not want to be another person that State Farm's fleet of angry lawyers comes after. But my hours were changed, I was given a random shift, and I was put under the worst supervisor imaginable. I was with State Farm for a year and a half and she was so bad that I quit after being with her for only a month. But sadly, as bad as she was, she was not the worst part. State Farm is a failing company. 5 years ago it was an amazing place to work, and now EVERYBODY I know who works at SF is saying to run away from it. State Farm used to care about their employees, but now they just look to save money. Even if it means treating people like trash until they quit. They even make you BUY the plastic forks that come with your lunch in the cafeteria. Really? $0.10 for a plastic fork? Really? Come on… A while ago they gave my friend $900 in paid time off and he quit 5 months later. Then 4 months after he quit they "asked" for the money back or they would take legal action against him. Why does a $75 billion company feel the need to take their recent failures out on their employees and the people who are unfortunate enough to overpay for insurance with them? My friend did take them to small claims court and win, but still. Just because my experience (and so many other people's experience) with them has been awful doesn't mean yours will be. They do have a few good people sprinkled throughout the company that makes my time there almost worth it.... almost.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
