Pros

The company has talented engineers and solid technical potential. Some teams genuinely try to do meaningful work, and there are people who care about building good products. The brand name also looks good on paper, at least from the outside.

Cons

My experience at SurveyMonkey India has been draining and demoralizing. Favouritism and office politics matter more than merit. I have seen strong engineers being ignored while the right people stay protected. There is constant behind the scenes plotting that turns engineers and managers against each other, creating mistrust instead of collaboration. Instead of being open about layoffs, the company uses contract loopholes and PIPs to quietly force people out. Everything is handled in secrecy, with no clear communication or respect for employees. HR leadership is a major part of the problem. The tone is often rude, arrogant, and condescending, and employees are spoken to like children. Real concerns are brushed aside, and people are made to feel that company wide problems are their own fault. PIPs feel like exit plans rather than support. HR also questions hours spent in the office while forcing people to come in on event days or during offshore team visits. The double standards are obvious. Even basic things like office food are poor, which reflects how little employee comfort matters. Management feels completely tone deaf. Micromanagement is constant, empathy is missing, and productivity is pushed at any cost. People are pressured to attend company events even when they clearly do not want to. Personal boundaries are ignored. Even maternity leave is treated like an inconvenience, with pressure to work until the very last day.

Pros

The company culture at SurveyMonkey is really special. Curiosity and risk-taking is encouraged, and people are free to be their authentic selves at work. If there are faults, it's that we are too nice and collaborate too much that it sometimes slows down decisions. People are genuinely passionate about building, marketing, and servicing a great product & experience for our customers. Upward mobility is real for those who work towards it - SurveyMonkey likes to promote from within, and I've been able to grow my own career from IC into a leadership position here. Benefits are great too. I've had 2 babies while working here and felt fortunate to have the 16 week parental leave and $20k towards fertility/doula services. Flexible hybrid remote/in-office. Favors pacific time zone.

Cons

The PE-owned chapter at the company has been one of consolidation and cost-cutting. It forces focus, but has meant we've had to say goodbye to a lot of talented teammates.
