Pros

In the 820th, there is no guarding gates, airplanes or WMDs. Instead, you train, all the time. Offensive and defensive war tactics, battle drills, weapons firing, etc. If you don't make it in Special Operations, this is the place to aim for. Most of your weekends are to yourself, PT everyday, days usually end around 4-5 pm(start around 7am), and of course, excellent staffs and techs who really push you to be the best. Deployments are mostly 6-8 months, which is a positive in that your pay is significantly increased. Fridays are typically fun, with PT competitions between flights or squads, even earlier release time and EOW training. Plus, the longer you're there, the easier it is to request time off at your convenience. Lastly, your brothers and sisters around you will become your: Drinking Buddies, Battle Buddies, Designated Drivers, Wingman(for the chicas), and Best Friends.

Cons

When you 1st arrive, there is an abnormally large amount of places to sign into. If you come with a large group of "New Booties", expect to be put to hammer right away. They don't hate you, but every little mistake, even something as small as a water bottle being left behind on a Tuesday, will lead to an exhausting smoke session later on in the week. Most likely the smoke sessions(mostly referred to as ETD (Extended Training Day)), will be on Fridays, so your weekends will begin with burning your liver away. Some of the leadership, specifically the NCOIC and OPSO are quite pathetic in their jobs and usually drive your blood pressure through the roof with their stupidity and lack of endearment. But after your 1st month or two, you'll feel right at home.

Pros

Getting 2.5days of accrued leave per month is nice, which adds up over time. You can request leave whenever within your schedule and it won't be denied.

Cons

Not too much structure when it comes to squadron training. Depends on your squadron but leadership can really determine your experience.
