Pros

- very good windows laptops and good monitors at office, great support from IT/hardware team - some nice people like in every place on earth - good coffee machine and coffe but you have to pay - going for lunch as a team once a week but you have to pay

Cons

- awful office conditions in Newcastle - a house turned into an office, lots of guys sitting next to each other in a small stuffy room, if you go to the loo you need people to move their chairs to make a way for you - employed as a Back End Engineer but was made to write automation tests 90% of the time - tests were for the Front End that was in the porcess of development and that meant rewriting the tests on and on - tech leads could not make up their mind on how automation tests should look like and keept changing all the time the standards on how to write them - monotonous work - praise-to-criticism ratio 1:9 - zero diversity, only white British men amongst developers - lots of micromanagement, managers without even saying 'hi' keep asking all the time if tasks are finished - not trust - the only idea on how to produce successful software is to mindlessly and quickly do JIRA tasks so we can see some nice burndown charts at the end of the sprint - difficult to understand codebase - blame culture, often blaming other team in the South, finger pointing etc - constant problem in delivering on time for the client - lots of people leaving - people laid off during lockdown

We are sorry to see that you did not have a pleasant experience at Unilink, we try our best to make improvements and take onboard employees concerns and complaints. Thank-you for your comments. Our staff turnover rate is lower than average and we have not dismissed a single employee due to Covid or because of a lockdown, nor did we layoff or furlough any employees. We actually recruited over fifty staff during the main period of the pandemic to just under two hundred today. We have been looking at offices in Newcastle to make the move to a more modern and comfortable environment, this has taken time because we are consulting with Employees on what is important to them and we strive to meet these demands. We have recently located a very modern office and expect to move in the next 3-4 months. I would like to look into your role and speak to your former manager about being employed as a back end engineer only to work on front end test, if you could email me at hr@unilink.com I will be able to investigate this further. We strive to celebrate good work with awards such as on the spot awards and the chairman’s awards, the results of a recent survey suggest we are strong at communication throughout the business. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative of all sections of society, and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To achieve this Unilink recruits across the UK, Europe and Australia to promote diversity across all departments, allow for flexible and remote working because we believe each Employee has individual needs and requirements.

Pros

Worked with some lovely people

Cons

Concerning blame and bullying culture- I read a response in a review from HR that they take bullying seriously….. this isn’t true. Blatantly away of the culture and the senior management involved but can’t do anything about it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience at Unilink did not reflect the supportive and respectful environment we aim to provide for all our employees. We take any concerns about bullying or inappropriate behaviour extremely seriously. Unilink has a clear grievance and anti-bullying procedure in place, which is available for all employees to review at any time. Our HR team is always available for confidential discussions, and we encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses behaviour that doesn’t align with our values to reach out so that we can take appropriate action. We’re also continuously reviewing our internal systems and processes, including our technology to ensure they support both our people and our customers effectively. We value your contribution and feedback, as it helps us to improve and continue building a culture where everyone feels respected, heard, and supported.
