Pros

I have worked in the veterinary field for 20 years as an RVT. I have worked GP/ER/holistic/PT and I have fulfilled many roles from starting out as a student RVT to practice manager. I have worked for private hospitals as well as corporations. I will say that my experience with VCA has been better than I imagined. VCA gave me the opportunity to continue to grow in the veterinary industry when I felt that I was stuck. They provide RVTs with different paths within our industry and value our roles and knowledge. I get to work with field team leaders and hearing how they work with and for their teams lets me know I work for the right company. The support I have personally received has been beyond what I have ever received at previous companies. The changes I see the company making to be better let me know I am in the right place. It is the people within a company that is important and we have compassionate, helpful, and supportive people throughout the company that truly care about their teams.

Cons

I don't feel there are cons that are specific to VCA but more just the veterinary field in general.

Pros

This company offers many opportunities for doctors and techs to grow in their careers. They provide tons of support and they've been making HUGE changes to veterinary medicine on a whole. I have never known another company to offer so many benefits and perks for staff (especially techs), and they're even making lots of effort to invest in the veterinary receptionists-the front line associates of the hospital. They're also making great strides to acknowledge some of the feedback we've had for many years. They're savvy and smart, making business decisions that build on a company that will be around a long time (and has.)

Cons

There have been times where transparency and communication are lacking, and sometimes to the point where hospital-level employees feel left out or unheard. Some bigger topics like onboarding and navigating what support comes from where could be more clear. It feels like they've been fusing on new concepts/policies/features to the company, making it feel like a clunky machine rather than building something new and streamlined. Maybe it's in the works, but how do we know down here?
