Pros

Generous PTO for old timers. There should be lots of opportunities here because the people who know better are going to leave. I love the people I work with. It is an honor to work with people in their time of need.

Cons

New benefits plan, takes away $46.15 bi-weekly credit, essentially giving each employee a $1200 annual pay cut. Raises were frozen for two years, now max is 2%. LTC insurance no longer offered. 401K match reduced from 50% to 25%. New single health insurance option is HIGH deductible. Employees must pay $1250 out of pocket, before any benefit available. Many VITAS employees make $10 -$14/hr. Sr Management should be ashamed. Look up CHE, chemed stock to see the top people cashing out hundreds of thousands in stocks. "We take care of each other" is a VITAS value, which has been forgotten, and replaced with a push for employees to contribute what they have left to help other employees in need. The culture of subordinates pressured to give gifts to supervisors should be banned.

Pros

A very independent role, great Work-Life balance, a great way to learn the “why” behind policies, procedures, etc.

Cons

100% online training only. Lack of in-house support for specific role.

Pros

Being able to build relationships with my patients and relieve the patients and family members of the difficulties with going through end of life care.

Cons

Poor pay management between new and current staff. Unwanted overtime. Not getting reimbursed for time spent on the road before and after shifts. It is possible to be gone from your house for 12 hours and only be payed for your 8 hour shift. Milegage starts after your first visit and ends at your last visit. You will not be payed for the start of your day or for the end of the day. You only get two holidays off and you are required to pay your holiday out of what little PTO you earn. There is no encouragement to stay long term. Seniority does not benefit you in any way. Little to no useful training. You will not be trained on how to use the equipment your patients may need. There is a ridiculous amount of management for what little field staff there is. They will say that you will cover a specific territory, then be expected to cover outside of that territory. You will not have a set end time of your day. Your end of shift relief may take up to 1 hour to be able to get to you. You are often unable to commitments on shift days. Company will often make promises that are not able to be met by field staff.
