Pros

Vanguard built an on-site medical center for employees which was a great idea, but it also was created so employees never have to leave their desks.

Cons

I worked for Vanguard for 7 years. I started on the phones and worked my way up to project manager. For the first 3 years I loved working for the company then there was a shift in management. Employees were interchangeable and work was outsourced to India. People were forced to retire or be "managed out." The culture was poisonous. Typical life-draining corporate environment. When Bogle ran the company Vanguard cared about its employees and clients now it is just another financial company. Work elsewhere unless you are a clueless entry-level employee out of college, they love to promote this type of worker!

Pros

Awesome coworkers for young professionals. Paid licensing for a few months.

Cons

Micromanagement is out of control. Incompetent team leaders who are obsessed with power and metrics. Back to back calls, limited support, and nearly impossible effective communication between departments. Zero time to cultivate culture because you are taking calls every second of the day except for 30min/1hr lunch and two 15 minute breaks. You’re locked into your role for over a year (apprenticeship for around 60 days, then a year after promotion to associate) and your team leaders will not approve internal applications unless you are “eligible”.
