Pros

Being able to put “Vanguard” on a resume and meeting some of my closest friends.

Cons

Unfortunately the company has taken a turn for the worst. Over the past 3 years, many things have changed about the company itself as well as the culture. No matter what department you work in, there is always extreme micro managing. There is no growth or getting promoted here, it’s nearly impossible. I’ve heard colleagues compare it to the movie “The Hunger Games.” Essentially you are up against many other internal applicants (sometimes hundreds) and there is only one opening available; the person who is going to be selected for the job is already predetermined before they even conduct the interviews. Keep in mind there are over 16,000 employees just at the Malvern location, and with that being said, it is close to impossible to get a promotion.

Pros

Awesome coworkers for young professionals. Paid licensing for a few months.

Cons

Micromanagement is out of control. Incompetent team leaders who are obsessed with power and metrics. Back to back calls, limited support, and nearly impossible effective communication between departments. Zero time to cultivate culture because you are taking calls every second of the day except for 30min/1hr lunch and two 15 minute breaks. You’re locked into your role for over a year (apprenticeship for around 60 days, then a year after promotion to associate) and your team leaders will not approve internal applications unless you are “eligible”.
