Lots of promise, mostly unfulfilled.... - Anonymous employee ViON Employee Review

Pros

Healthcare plan and free drinks/coffee....that's it

Cons

Tendency to hire "friends" from other companies (i.e. Hitachi) over outside hires that bring in practical experience. General arrogance due to past successes precluded future contract wins. It was very hard to overcome decades of relationships when the executive team valued those over good guidance/advice and hard work from the few outside hires they did. Common theme was "ViON is the place for former Hitachi execs to go when they retire".

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience at ViON. We value your feedback and constantly strive to make ViON the employer of choice. Of course, our perspective of ViON is a little different from yours. It is true that we have hired a number of individuals from Hitachi over our 37 years in business. It is also true that ViON has a strong track record of hiring employees’ through our Employee Referral Program. We are very pleased that so many of our employees’ think ViON is such a great place that they refer so many colleagues to us.

Pros

The 5 years I spent at ViON were the best of my professional career. The owners care about their employees and take great care of them. They empower you to take care of your customers.

Cons

None that I can think of.

Pros

No Sales Quotas. Free training but most you would never use there. Same for certifications payments. Average concise benefits. Free coffee in the cafe.

Cons

The annual bonus plan was significantly "misrepresented". Was told and have documented the bonus would be 20-30% of base pay. Well over 2.5 years guess what average 8% of base pay. Also, Vacation time will disappear with no warning if your not careful. Had the opportuntiy to work last Christmas and New years weeks for a RFP and could not take vacation. This resulted in two weeks of vacation time lost and they dont pay for that. Company has so many folks that been there for over 10/20 plus years that someone has to die or move away to get promoted. Managers/Vice Presidents seem to always go to trade shows every month in good locations while the pre sales guys get stuck in DC at FOSE, etc. VP of Engineering is agressive in his expections of selling and unrealistic in the execution and processes. Constant extra duty like uploading whitepapers to a file share run on third rate storage.
