Pros
Decent pay, talk to some nice people
Cons
Zep is a very dysfunctional company. While the job itself wasnt bad, management made it awful. Training for sales jobs is basically non existent. You will spend one week in Atlanta learning about chemicals then you are sent out into the field on your own. Your success depends on who your manager is. There are a few sales managers who are willing to help, but the one I've encountered is egotistical, narcissistic, demeaning, and likes to take credit for others success without accepting any failure. In no circumstance is it okay for a manager to ask an employee "what the hell is going on in your head?" If you are unfortunate enough to have this manager in the North East, I would recommend running for the hills. Favoritism runs rampant at this company. If you're not in the good graces of your manager, you will have a harder time succeeding. Zep likes to preach that they value their employees and want to make them feel appreciated. On the contrary, you will constantly be compared other colleagues, and belittled. Zep uses the old school mentality with their employees, make an example of someone to intimate others into doing a better job. Manager preached open door policy but would become irate if you asked a question that he didn't know the answer to. Most sales people are well over 50. They will not be willing to train reps because they feel like they will take their accounts. If you are a younger person desiring a collaborative or a team atmosphere, look elsewhere. There is no wonder why they have a difficult time hiring new employees.
