Pros

Perceived support Wellness and creative Fridays Was focused on Black and Brown ppl breaking into tech A big family

Cons

One day (out of nowhere - literally), the CEO pivoted from a mission driven company that was founded to support black and brown people break into tech to a SaaS product (that no one wants to buy) because it was too hard (lol) - typical privileged Ivy Leaguer - there's literally no more tech sales bootcamp. CEO just laid off my team because of $$, yet offered me and everyone else a bonus and larger salary right after he came back from a lavish trip...disgusting. Privileged bootcamp teachers and trainers can't relate to most of the students due to their white fragility Horrible supports for ppl from underrepresented backgrounds once they're placed in a tech company - how do you even pivot then this happens Too much leaning on 1-2 token people to uplift the brand This is the WeWork or Fyre Festival of the ed tech world - horrible leadership w/HUGE egos Lies lies lies - a TON of them

Pros

- They have great trainers (not all of them but probably 50%) - The company has great connections with potential employers - Intense program that forces you to get out of your shell - Changing and adapting curriculum

Cons

- Minority focus: I am part of a minority, and yes, I understand the challenges that people like me have to face every day. However, Flockjay has made it their goal to keep talking about the existing disparity in the world, constantly bringing up how unfair minorities are treated and making people SCARED of going into the tech industry because of how RACIST and intolerant it is. I would appreciate moving on from this topic and focusing on becoming better professionals instead. In this manner, we can prove to the world that minorities can bring new perspectives and great value to every company. I have experience in the tech industry and many connections who share my opinion. It can be challenging, but what job isn't? - Feedback: for a company "open to different points of view", they are not very open to talking about opinions different from theirs. They will tell you to write feedback that will go mostly ignored if it doesn't fully align with their personal believes. - Target audience: turn on CNN or any mainstream media from the left. If you don't agree with 100% of what is said, you will feel constantly attacked and ignored by people at Flockjay. Drink the Kool-Aid or people will look at you weirdly. Good luck having your own opinions. - Some instructors don't care about teaching: they clearly don't read the slides before class and try to figure things out as they go. SO many times, we ended up wasting time because instructors were not properly prepared for class. - Political commentary: yes, I know the country is going through a tough time. However, I don't pay Flockjay to give me their version of the news. I suggest keeping your political opinions to yourself. - Diversity, diversity, diversity......: Yes, this is awesome. We all want more diversity in the workplace. However, I saw more focus after I graduated in making everybody join an "Identity group". This was very discouraging considering that many of my peers, who were still actively looking for jobs, were feeling left alone through that challenging process. - Even after you get finish the program and get a job, be prepared to get emails with the political opinions of the founders. I've decided to mark all these messages as SPAM in my inbox.
