Pros

Inspired, smart people and a wonderful mission. The company premises are gorgeous.

Cons

Very political senior management. Two tier system: senior management is overstaffed and preoccupied with holding on to their jobs while regular staff is overworked and underpaid. Unfortunately, upper management politics undermine the mission.

Pros

The mission and culture of GLEF attract knowledgeable, positive, passionate individuals who truly care about the mission of advancing progressive educational ideas and practices, and who are a credit to the Edutopia and Lucas Education Research brands. The team is warm and inclusive, professional development opportunities are ample, the benefits are generous (both the standard package and the perks of daily life at Skywalker Ranch), and the location is magical. Every day, you are involved in a purposeful mission for social good, directly affecting a community that is excited by what you do.

Cons

For a small organization that values its climate of inclusive community, the senior management often seems disconnected from daily activities and slow to communicate its intentions to rank-and-file employees. One major caveat for anyone interested in working at GLEF: owning your duties and performing them to the best of your abilities (even when that's above and beyond expectations) may not be enough to guarantee long-term job security. If you don't adequately demonstrate an interest in growing beyond your job title, your skills may be perceived as limited and ultimately expendable.
