Pros

For anyone that needs hands on experience, you will get it here. If you get a job outside of the office, this is the way to stay happy with the company.

Cons

Non existent HR Department is a disaster waiting to happen. Executives constantly telling employees they are replaceable and should be thankful they have a job, even after IMS is the one that recruited them from another job. Constant nepotism amungst management and their children that are employed at IMS is absolutely horrible and discouraging to every employee. Micromanaging is unbelievably strong due to the owners. They have some great managers in line but the owners will not trust them for a minute. Owners constantly watching how long employees are at work. I could work 14 hours one day, and get lectured for leaving 15mins early the next day.

IMS has experienced a 4 percent turnover rate during the last eight years of our existence; even less prior to that. While we consider any turnover (except retirement) as unacceptable in terms of our hiring and management practices, we constantly strive to reduce our turnover rate. Our current turnover rate of 4 percent is significantly under the national average or what is considered to be an unhealthy turnover rate by SHRM (typically over 10 percent is unhealthy). Many of the Employees that left IMS which made up the 4 percent did so because of retirement or other lifestyle changes. In addition to our low turnover rate, we are extremely proud to have added over 30 net new jobs during this same time frame and experienced tremendous growth rates. We had to hire a lot of people very quickly which is good in one sense because we believe that job creation is one of the civic duties of a small business. We have attained the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest growing companies in America three years running (2011, 2012 & 2013). This accomplishment has never been attained by any other Company in our industry (AV Systems Integration) and very few in Event Staging. We have been profitable every year of our existence since 1994 and offer a financially secure environment for our Team. We are very proud of our people and their accomplishments. We consider our Team to be the very best in AV and do everything possible to retain our top performers.....they are what make the difference and what makes IMS a great company.

Pros

Some great employees...Not so great management

Cons

When they say you are being given a raise don't be surprised if it is only 25 cents. Yes they promote within (rarely) but you will most likely be given some money and a title but you will have to continue to do your old job on top of your new one. When a persons new position is threatened by the work load of their old position/new position combined you have set your people up for failure. In some instances you will have a 3 year trial period before you are fully promoted. When you ask management for a career path they will panic and then give you options you don't want. Who wants to move from one side of the company at a decent position and pay to the other side of the company and have to work their way back up?

IMS has four Divisions including Event Staging, Productions, System Integration and Managed Services. Many members of our team have moved laterally or have been promoted from one Division to the other. We currently have approximately six team members that moved from an Event Staging Technician to various other positions when they decided that the travel associated with the job/industry, no longer suited their lifestyle. Every one of them was afforded the same pay level (for a lateral move) or greater (if it entailed a promotion). We are very proud that we have a number of career paths available for our Team. In terms of employee development, both our Department Managers and Owners map out a career path for every employee. The path consists of IMS training as well as performance initiatives, goals and objectives that the employee is responsible for attaining. When new positions are open, IMS looks internally first to fill all positions. When employees are ready, we promote them. When we don't have qualified candidates internally, we look externally. Of the 78 current employees, over 40 have been promoted from within during their 2-13 year tenure with IMS. Of our six Executive Managers, five were promoted from within.

Pros

While working here I learned a lot about the corporate audio visual industry. I also had many chances to learn about new gear and get practice using it, which helped me get to where I am now.

Cons

In this company there is little to no room for advancement. In addition, the owners care more about making a profit than they do about providing employees with fair compensation. Lastly, work schedule changes frequently and sometimes you are not even told about the changes.

In 2008 IMS had 46 Employees on our team. As of 2014, we have expanded to 78. We grew substantially all through the recession and have continued our exponential growth as the economy has improved. We have been fortunate to be able to provide all of our Team with pay increases each year. As a matter of fact, 98% of our employees earn in excess of 75% of the people that work in their same position nationally as documented by both the InfoComm and NSCA wage and benefit surveys. In terms of our track record promoting employees, of the 78 current employees, over 40 have been promoted from within during their tenure with IMS. Of our six Executive Managers, five were promoted from within. We are very proud of the fact that five of our existing employees previously left the Company and came back to the IMS Team after working with other Companies in the industry. We go to great lengths to help our Team develop. With that being said, we will attempt to refocus even more energies on employee development so that we can do an even better job in the future.
