Pros

Full remote Great team Lots of PTO

Cons

- Horrible management - C-Suite does not care about employees - thinks of them as numbers - Entire departments laid off via zoom call - No transparency in team management - Tense office culture - everybody hates coming in - -All white leadership team with 1 female director - no communication between teams, everyone plays blame game due to lack of leadership and direction - weird tension between cofounders - cult of personality around company co-founders, forced to watch videos extolling their feats and personalities

We're disappointed to hear you didn't enjoy your time at Known. The last few years have been challenging, especially in terms of managing remote teams. We can certainly understand that Zoom communications are not always ideal. We are very proud of our industry leading eNPS, customer engagement and Leadership approval scores. Although closing our office in Canada was a difficult decision, it has further enhanced collaboration and teaming as we grow our Head Office team. Our people are our priority, and we love to learn through feedback, so if you would like to confidentially discuss your feedback please do reach out to us.

Fun Team, Bad Org

Pros

they have a monetary incentive system for recognition and a fun, remote team. the entire office is remote, and while many team members do come in, you're never forced or coerced to go into the office. their remote first culture is one of the best i've experienced. lots of in-office events. drinks, fitness activities, etc. they really try to get people involved, but some other factors make people not want to join in...

Cons

going to be parroting the other negative review's cons. there's a problem with caring and communication. although the org commented that "it was a difficult choice" to shut down an entire department of the company, that decision came after a "promise' from the cofounder that they would remain "committed" to all satellite offices. layoffs are normal, but don't try to take the moral high ground by lying after the fact. everybody still talks about the gaslighting from leadership about this event. there's also one manager here that makes really misogynic comments about women, but only to other men, in calls and in the office. this individual makes it uncomfortable to speak up because they are harsh and abrasive so often. without naming any names, i think it's hypocritical of the company to promote diversity and belonging but also take no action against comments like this, especially against a manager. the weird cult of personality is also true, and something that is so ingrained in this org's culture. i started after the fact, but i've heard that new onboarding employees have to watch a series of picture slideshows featuring the cofounders? it's not odd to talk about the company's history and origins, but it's weird to focus so much attention on them with party music in the background. basically, despite all of the effort to have people more involved, the lieing nature of leadership makes it difficult to join in. people really don't feel comfortable coming in, and it's not just because of that one misogynic manager.

Pros

HR are putting in a LOT of effort into improving the company culture. Great snacks and alcohol fridge, new initiatives, great christmas party. Team comraderie is strong. Pay is good.

Cons

The joking chatter was that the co-founders 'woke up and started a business, it grew too big, they didn't expect it, and they don't have experience on how to manage it and what to do next'. They're really great people that I respected but not so great leaders, sadly. Founders and Directors make decisions as a group, and are extremely slow to accepting new ideas and taking risks. e.g They changed to 'Known' because it was written in graffiti on a train, launched without a proper plan, and within a year are brainstorming a new name again. If they keep butting heads with new Directors or Managers they seem to let them go. We joked we needed to 'just keep swimming' . The recruitment interviews will sell a polished show but there's a lot of mess behind the curtain and extreme patience required. It's a shame because HR put in a lot of work to keep the good vibes. Office is always empty.
