I worked at MEG Energy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They use to have a strong belief with advancement and opportunities for their Staff. Great Benefits offered, flexible work hours, and fostered the sense of productivity, innovation and change. Your team was valued and offered the chance to make a difference. You were rewarded for hard work and collaboration.

    Cons

Post IPO and hiring some poor leaders, the company morale declined, and was greatly hindered. They fired many great people, and promoted the wrong people. This succession and changing of the guard resulting in poor performing teams, misguided tasks and questionable leadership.

    Advice to Management

It can't always be about the margin in the short-term. Great staff who feel valued will pay dividends to your bottom line.

    Pros

Nice people, alternate Fridays off, monthly free breakfast. Feels like a smaller company. Company functions open to all types of employment.

    Cons

Communication between depts. could be better. Too many levels of approval required for simple changes. Hours were 8 to 5, no freedom to start at 7:30 if desired.

    Advice to Management

Should provide training to new managers upon promotion. Orientation for field employees should include HR processes like timesheet completion & vacation requests.

I have been working at MEG Energy full-time

    Pros

    -Excellent compensation
-Nice additional perks along salary (Flex Fridays, LTI, RRSP Matching)
    -Small tight knit business units
-Some very experienced and smart long-timers who are great mentors

    Cons

-Nepotism on a borderline unethical level (hard to move up)
-High salaries often lead to people in over their head who will deflect issues leading to more issues
-Some management levels have very little understanding of the low level operations of their own groups

    Advice to Management

Understand the groups you're working in, find the right people for the job instead of people you are good friends with.

    Pros

Great work environment -- fun place. People are professional and still fun. Migrating to a get er done type company.

    Cons

Some bureaucracy still remains, but are getting it slowly cleaned up. Have cut positions deeply so now may be too lean.

    Pros

Good culture of fun. Good work life/balance. Great reservoir. Great pay. Benefits were incredible.

    Cons

Management unable to make decisions. Budgets were always late and uncertain as to scope and size. Pride themselves on reacting fast to conditions, but end up costing a lot of money for those changes and stressing the staff. No corporate goals provide to staff. Massive debt. No corporate strategy for career development.
