We are trying to make it better13 Mar 2023 - Human Resources in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness Outlook
-There are a lot of good initiatives going on here from Paid Parental leave to the Regional Commuter Passes. -We are about rollout something to honor retirees -Attitude are changing toward the Gallup survey. - Some people really love it here.
- The railroad is an industry with rich, deep rooted culture almost like policing or firefighting because families go into this work. -Which is also what is tough about it Metra, people got jobs here because of who they know. -It's hard to get rid of people with poor attitudes who felt back on this job when they wanted to do something else. - Many people are in unhappy arranged marriages with Metra. -Not a good place for dreamers/creatives. Better someone who wants something stable and predictable.Continue reading

It's....fine10 Mar 2023 - Anonymous Employee in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness Outlook
Decent pay and benefits, fairly easy to become long-term employment.
Management is inflexible. Very little room for growth. Union employees are treated very unfairly. Even in an emergency situation, no exceptions will be made for you if it's personal and not work related.

Management is horrendous micro managing and always trying to reinvent the wheel.

Bad Planning15 Jan 2023 - Staff Accountant in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness Outlook
Great People to work with. Great benefits and pension.
no one seems to realistically plan projects so managers end up acting as a lead worker instead of strategically working. My manager was busy all the time and couldn't really help me out of problems. Terrible succession planning. Preferential treatment for some, more work for others because they are good at it.Continue reading

Time off and pensions. New transit free ridership for RTA operators
Senior level directors and chiefs micro manage and new/innovative ideas are not invited. Very little flexibility in work schedule. Any increased compensation is difficult to obtain.
