Based on admirable idea of mutuality or sharing the risk among its own members, without involving shareholders who are in it as an investment. Kinder, gentler insurance that’s more affordable. And pays out accidents quickly and fairly.
Cons
To get anywhere you must be a white male. So old fashioned / old school. Women are valued - at lower and admin levels. This comes from the top - president John Taylor who is not a strong leader. Second downside, the constant drama with sister company the reinsurer Farm Mutual Re. Get over it guys - Farm Mutual is smarter, better.
