Pros

Near immediate friendship with other base crew members due to trauma bonding from working in such a chaotic industry Hands on experience with various types of events Will never again complain of an 8hr shift for the remainder of your life Look at working here as a crew member as a paid workout, you will sweat & stress

Cons

Expected to work 80+hrs during busy season (0 value given to any personal time requested) and work less then 20hrs a week during slow season (difficult to sustain) Management hands out false promises of potential growth during interviews with no intention on allowing any one individual to grow unless you stay 3+yrs and are very compliant, pretty much meaning you always do as your told and never question your poor leadership You will always be on the wrong side of the fence working crew, there are 6 total departments in this company(Video&Photography/DJ’s/Decor/Floral/Corporate Level/Crew) and crew is not only responsible for helping make every other departments lives easier but in addition, are expected to continue handling all crew obligations at the same time. If ANYTHING goes wrong you will be made out to be the one in the wrong despite doing exactly what they train you to do. They treat every other department fairly well while burning out crew members since they have a system to train, imply chance of growth, burn out, then hire a new batch of workers to repeat this process, keeping those willing to sacrifice their everything for minimal reward while refusing to give those who verbalize the very obvious issues here NO MORE hours until you quit so they don’t have to pay in to unemployment. Management on the surface may seem professional but in a very short period of time you’ll come to learn that is not even slightly the case outside of technical knowledge, AWFUL leadership that’s happy to leave you out to dry during the thick of it Regularly put in dangerous situations they do not prepare you for

Pros

Your crew is absolutely the best part of this place, and is without a doubt the reason anyone sticks around. You do get involved with some pretty impressive events, but you can get that anywhere. Paid on time every week.

Cons

Complete lack of communication from managers, blame is always shifted down, schedules are random at best, with you sometimes being scheduled for the next day while you’re asleep and being chewed out for sleeping in, don’t expect to have any time for friends, family, or even funerals (several crew members had to fight to attend family services), +15-20 hour days fairly common, +80 hour weeks fairly common, very low pay for the industry, management likes to pay people wildly different (usually unfair) rates and tries to bully people into not talking about wages to continue the inequity, can go months without a day off unless requested (can be denied), have to work shifts with less than 8 hours of down time uncommonly, but not rarely, little to no training from management, almost all of it will be a crew member trying to teach you on the fly, generally unsafe working conditions despite management’s vocal dedication to safety.

Pros

you will learn about some great industry technology

Cons

management has no idea what is going on. Company expects employees to be available whenever, with no respect to life outside of work. Hours are given with little notice at all, sometimes 48 hours before a shift starts. There was never an end time to shifts, just "whenever it gets done" so you'd have no idea if you'd be working for 4 hours or 14. You could easily have 30 hours scheduled from fri-sunday. They'd be very selective over who'd they give hours to. It was either all or nothing, you'd be getting 60 hours a week or like 2. shifts were edited on the fly, so you could be thinking your day was just about over, and then you'd get a call or a text saying you're expected somewhere else, adding hours and hours to your shift. It didn't matter if you had prior commitments, you belonged to them. Often, if you were working during busy season, you'd be expected to be back at work for a long shift like 6 hours after your previous shift ended. This would give employees like 4 hours of sleep. Some employees rather slept in their car instead of going back home just to turn back around and come to work again.
