If you like working solo, or in small groups with little "micro-management", RPE's a good group to work for. Each project is different, and handled very hands-on by the project manager, not according to some "playbook". The company benefits are quite good, particularly the medical coverage. Project managers have always been helpful with integrating vacations or other personal time into their project schedules. I've had the opportunity to work outside my comfort zone, expanding my knowledge of other systems, thus improving my resume. I can't speak for others, but my compensation has been more than fair, and my relationship with the "higher-ups" has been very positive.
Cons
Like any consulting firm, the goal is to be off the bench and (usually) travelling every week. It can be a grind. Since RPE is a smaller firm, and there isn't a "playbook", often the client can make demands (on resources or simply time) that make working a project more difficult. There is definitely a "boots-on-the-ground" philosophy at RPE. While I haven't felt left out of the loop on major accomplishments of the company, there's very little inter-company communication, for example between consultants in the same specialty. In fact, the only people I've met have been the ones who happened to be on the same projects as I was. In this way, the company is beyond siloed.
