Where Happiness Comes to Die

Pros

• RealMassive is a great place to work, if you are a masochist. • Lunch is catered 3x per week - subsidize your lunches and low pay with free samples from Whole Foods’ massive flagship store located nearby. • There are some nice people at this company; sadly, their numbers dwindle as they quit. • Ideal work environment for introverts, anti-social people and/or anyone hoping to make it through the workday without having a single conversation or meaningful social interaction. • Casual dress, some free snacks and a ping pong table. Sadly, a ping pong table does not a successful startup make.

Cons

Do not waste your talent or time on this pathetic excuse for a company. RealMassive is a (very) low budget, corporate company masquerading as a startup; it has the negative aspects of both and the benefits of neither. RealMassive’s inept and visionless leadership has destroyed the company’s culture, lowered employee morale and created a toxic work environment. I have never felt more taken advantage of, undervalued or undermined professionally. • RealMassive has the innovative spirit of a rock. • NO BENEFITS • Rampant mediocrity, Machiavellianism, unethical business practices, a top-down structure and bureaucratic culture • Repetitive, mindless, tedious, soul crushing work. • RealMassive is seriously lacking in racial, gender and cultural diversity. No women in leadership positions, only 1 person of color in the office and few (if any?) employees are from outside of Texas. Businesses need diversity to survive, thrive and innovate and RealMassive's lack of diversity of thought and experience is a huge barrier to success. • Younger, lower-level employees are underpaid and overworked. Management routinely overpromises and underdelivers and employees are taken advantage of and exploited. • RealMassive has no HR. The absence of any single HR employee, team or department has serious implications for RealMassive's employees and has resulted in the violation of a number of employment laws. For example, RealMassive misclassifies employees as interns and does not abide by federal wage and hour requirements. • Cronyism, favoritism and the gender pay gap are alive and well at RealMassive. Negative effects contribute to lower morale, resentment, desertion, overlooked potential, and stunted growth. Expect your pay, promotions and role to be determined by unethical practices and woefully incompetent managers. • RealMassive is a passionate champion of the benefits of tech-enabled open-access, real-time exchange and transparency in the commercial real estate industry. Sadly, the leadership's fervor for transparency and accountability does not extend to its own workplace. Lack of transparency breeds lack of trust, and negative impacts can be seen at the individual, team and organizational level. • There is a serious lack of open, constructive dialogue at this company. Individuals are not encouraged to contribute their feedback, thoughts or opinions on important company decisions and there is more truth telling at the water cooler than in meetings. Incessant, negative office gossip is fueled by a lack of trust in company leaders and poor, ineffective communication.

Good on paper. Don’t waste your time.

Pros

Generally good work/life balance. Free lunch. Laid back.

Cons

Very high turnover, for good reason. All new leadership, again. Shaky leadership with little tech experience. Constantly changing Product priorities (often mid-sprint). Chasing products and features with no revenue implications. On paper it’s great, there is opportunity in what they are trying to do but planning and prioritizing is lacking and most are in denial about it. Few put in the time to be a successful company, much less a start-up. Not enough do-ers.

RealMassive Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great that you were able to see the opportunity in what RealMassive is building and how it will transform Commercial Real Estate. As with any start-up, we also recognize that the industry changes and we must be flexible and responsive to the needs of our current and prospective customers to deliver them the value they need to succeed. At times, this does result in strategic shifts such as reducing scope and focusing on high value solutions and system capabilities, but these are defined early in the planning process in an effort to set clear goals and expectations. We were disheartened to learn of your perception that priorities had been changed from what was defined in early 2018 and we’re committed to ensuring that no other team member will face this unique experience in the future. Our current leadership team, with a combined 50 years of software development and technology experience, has been in place for over 18 months and has ushered in a new era of innovation and direction based on market trends and customer demand. With the support of amazing investors and board members who prioritize each member of our team and their families, our commitment to growing a culture built on integrity, transparency and uncompromising ethics is unwavering. However, we do feel it’s important to address some additional items in your review. Over the last year, the leadership team at RealMassive has invested a record amount in Research & Development to bring the industry the most up-to-date source of commercial real estate data. As a result, we are on pace to generate revenue at record levels in 2019 and for many years to come. Our current success would not be possible if it wasn’t for the tireless efforts of our 6 Full-Time Engineers and 19 full-time on-site and off shore development team members that help us accelerate our time to market and operate with a re-invigorated commitment to delivery. Thanks to all 25 of them (and their commitment to getting the job done even when it calls for nights and weekend work), our 5 Sales and Marketing members can accelerate the delivery of our products directly to a customer base that has been eagerly awaiting its arrival. We expect amazing things in 2019 and beyond as evidenced by our current open positions in Engineering and Sales, and we are posting additional roles throughout Q1 of this year. Our people are at the center of our strategy and the key to our success. We’re excited to welcome new members to our team that thrive in a start-up environment and not only see the opportunity as it exists on paper but are committed to making the long-term vision a successful reality. -Mike Clark, Chief Executive Officer

Pros

Great atmosphere, great culture, extremely helpful and intelligent team, especially the CTO, Jason Vertrees. He is the heart of this company, and this atmosphere is great thanks to him. Good pay. Laid back environment. Pretty elastic work hours.

Cons

Not so good benefits. In 2015 they laid off almost half of the company without advance notice, which nobody appreciated.
