Pros

Good pay and always overtime available. Commissioning was excellent too.

Cons

Ridiculous miles driving every day. 2 hours to the first job. Different meters and apps for every contract. Poor management. Planning of the jobs is what killed it for me. Just an outrageous amount of driving. The training was confusing and poorly structured. If you don’t mind working 11-12 hours a day fitting meters then choose SMS. I was told that you finish when the jobs get done. Like it or lump it mentality, so I lumped it.

Pros

I started the role in lockdown. I only had online contact with limited employees. I had no contact in person with employees. But those I did have online contact with outside of my own department were very helpful, friendly and nice. The induction was well organised and was very informative. The set up of payroll and benefits was organised very well.

Cons

The induction process covered issues of work life balance, being inclusive and supportive and appeared that SMS as an organisation would be a supportive company. The experience in my team was very different to the message from the SMS induction. I was expected to work very long hours, the 'on the job' training was very poor and there was very little available support if I needed help and assistance from my team. I was made to feel uncomfortable in my team when asking questions about the processes in my new role, there were no training guides and when asking questions I would have to wait a long time before I would receive a reply from my team. From the moment my induction was finished I was put under enormous pressure to complete tasks by an unrealistic deadline and take ownership of the processes, when I was very new to the role and finding my feet. I wasn't given the tools I needed to be successful in the role such as training and support. I've trained over 100 staff in my career and the SMS experience was the opposite of how to successfully train new employees. I was thrown in the deep end and expected to 'reverse engineer' the processes with the addition of time pressure. I received no thanks for working long hours. I was made to feel at every opportunity that I lacked the ability and skills to be successful in the role rather than build my confidence with support, training and praise. Learning a new job requires repetition and having confidence in 1 process, before expecting an employee to learn process 2 etc, building confidence along the training road to success. I was given every process from the start which was overwhelming.

Pros

None. Get a job elsewhere.

Cons

Dysfunctional organisational culture. Managers here aren’t worthy of their titles. Managers have no people skills or any knowledge of their job. Toxic bullying culture by management. No point speaking to HR as they have no voice and it's so corrupt nothing will ever get done. High turn over of staff. No benefits. Very target driven - Quantity not quality. No communication. Terrible customer service. Poor quality work. No training. Core values are laughable. No job satisfaction. No incentives or bonuses. Just a number, easily replaced by someone on minimum wage.

Pros

Some managers are genuinely kind and flexible

Cons

Spoken to like crap, no training, discriminate against people who are disabled, unsupportive, dictatorship management. Promotes people into management that have 0 people management skills. There's legitimately a manager still working there that does air quotes for "disability" when talking about people with genuine disabilities. Disgusting enabling behaviour by senior management!

Pros

*Good money and so long as you do the job properly with photos to back it up, you rarely hear from anyone. *They had invested a lot of money in training and kit which makes a massive difference to the job

Cons

*Expected / forced overtime - contracted to a 40 hour week. Good luck if you try and work much under a 50 hour week though. *On call is normally understaffed and out until midnight 4 days in a row Management see no issue with this as you are paid. *Management and bosses will be annoyed if you won’t start a job at 3:30 knowing that you won’t be home till 6. All whilst their phones will be firmly off before 4. *Zero up-skill or progress from what I saw. If there was a plan to up-skill anyone it certainly wasn’t relayed to any employees.

Pros

The salary is respectable for the role. The shift patterns are acceptable. Non call centre staff are very approachable.

Cons

Management doesn't have enough involvement other than quality assessment. The team leaders lack experience managing staff. Team leaders have little respect for anyone lower in the hierarchy. Respect only runs one way. Personnel training lacks planning & preparation. Management are massively offended by any form of criticism. On the first day the manager introduced himself by telling the new staff how replaceable they are should his "informants" report anything negative. Little time for team building
