Beware: High Stress, Poor Management, Big Cost (In More Ways Than One)
Pros
The pay is decent compared to companies on the East Coast, it was the only reason I stayed. Unfortunately, so many projects were mismanaged that there was little sense of a future with the company.
Cons
Management is often unprepared, projects seem poorly planned from the outset, with design and engineering not fully resolved, leading to costly problems and constant firefighting. Minimal oversight or support during projects meant non-management staff were frequently dropped into difficult situations without guidance or support. The stress placed on employees who aren’t in leadership is intense. Deadlines, scope changes due to firefighting, and project failures are common, and the pressure rests heavily on those delivering the work. Positive suggestions from staff were often dismissed or ignored unless they came from management. High staff turnover suggests systemic issues in culture, workload, or leadership. Despite promises, no genuine training or development support was ever provided it was always “coming soon,” but never happened. While salary is fair, the “work you to your death” feeling is very real, long hours, shifting priorities, and constant scrambling to fix things.
