Pros

Good exposure for grad students and beginners

Cons

Overbearing rehabilitation process, uninspired assessments, frequent management changes, divides between teams, disorganised, complicated hierarchy, insensitive and lack of empathy often displayed, poor management skills, false promises and not keeping their word given during the interview process, micromanagement, no clear communication and then blame-game approach, extremely harsh and inflexible return to work post major health crisis management style, no prior notice given to make position redundant and notice given on the day itself shows lack of respect, empathy and even poor ethics although they sell insurance on the basis on empathy which is pretty ironic. By far, one of the worst experiences in my 12 years of IT experience and would never forget the toll it took on my mental health which was communicated to the direct management but was disregarded/ignored and finally have been blocked by them, may be some guilt could be the reason because I sure was very professional in my exit.

Pros

Compensation is probably ok. You may end find your colleagues and peer tolerable.

Cons

The company is a rigid, top-down hierarchy where dissenting opinions are discouraged. There is a noticeable 'boss culture' that prioritises compliance over innovation; challenging the status quo often results in professional friction or penalisation. Additionally, leadership seems to favour aggressive restructuring and forced redundancies as a primary management tool, which has significantly impacted people's health, morale and psychological safety.

Pros

If a bonus is what you want then like any other Insurance company this place is fine. Throw in the token work life balance and commitment to diversity and inclusion and place could be perceived as effectual

Cons

Poor supportive leadership with inaccessible management, fostering little employee growth and encouragement particularly for anyone who is new to TAL and wants to make a go of it. Unless you have been in the place for many, many years, then be prepared for minimal support, limited growth opportunities, and feeling disposable

Pros

The people you'll work with (including management) are passionate about helping Australians and are genuinely aiming to improve the life insurance offering in Australia.

Cons

Some people will always find reason to create an "us and them" mentality when it comes to people joining TAL in high numbers from other organisations.

Pros

Some good colleagues and learning opportunities depending on the team.

Cons

Very poor management culture with excessive micromanagement and little trust in employees. Salary growth is disappointing, with minimal or no yearly hikes despite hard work and performance. There is noticeable partiality within teams, and professionalism is lacking in some areas. Work-life balance is extremely poor, especially for working parents and new mums. Flexible work arrangements are not genuinely supported and often become a source of stress rather than support. Management does not seem to prioritise employee mental health or family responsibilities. Overall, the environment can feel unsupportive, exhausting, and not employee-focused.
