Pros

Leniant Managers, great if you have health issues and need to go to doctors frequently. Flexible hours, are usually able to swap shifts if you want to make plans. Most staff are approachable for things like this. The bonus you get during busy periods is very good* (see cons for clarification) and is equivilant to working an extra day each week of that month. Good Staff Benefits, saved probably thousands at Argos/Currys/Cineworld/Wickes/Toolstation/etc.

Cons

Keep increasing workload whilst making you sign things that basically say "if you break these rules that are impossible not to break, it's your own fault". Also, whilst making you work around harmful products (cement and plaster mainly) constantly without the correct protective equipment. Don't replace staff that leave, had not replaced 3 members of staff who left a good 6+ months ago before i went. Also don't attempt to cover shifts that people don't show up for then blame you for dropping the team in it. Get you to fill out yearly surveys that ask you to go over what could be improved. If you suggest something that isn't liked by the manager or criticises them, it'll be ridiculed in front of your peers. Witnessed blatant bullying/abuse of power by a couple of managers, if you're their friend you can get away with bloody murder. But if you're not, or are seen as an "easy target", you will get publicly scolded for not following the rules that their friends are allowed not to follow. Get bonuses based on how much the store goes over it's targets, so if you grind to the bone for a month straight but the K&B department don't hit their targets you don't get any bonus. Have heard from staff who still work their that the managers class minimum wage increases as a pay raise. Also everyone I know who used to work here, looks 10x healthier after leaving.
