It’s a mixed bag, but the right person will be happy
Pros
- a goldmine of great folks who care about the science. At its core I think everyone there is pretty great, just under some solid and legitimate pressure. - cool technology that is not industry standard - ability to expand upon current knowledge and branch out, just good luck finding the time - R&D VP has a heart of gold
Cons
- it’s an early stage startup. Know what that means before you join - little knowledge of fermentation R&D and scale up once you go below management. - strong personalities, but not harmful people. - Leadership below CEO/CFO has no real leadership training. A lot of good intentions that end up still missing the mark. - Insane hours with zero recognition and even less appreciation from middle management. - Some Sr research staff have no idea what they’re doing or talking about. Others are exceptional leaders and the difference is stark. - if you aren’t an engineer or PhD (or just a young woman perhaps) be prepared to feel like you’re sitting at the kids table during thanksgiving. - while I don’t agree that the tech is fraudulent (quite an accusation) it is a little more unreliable than advertised.
