Pros

Some of the people you meet are the only reason you would go back to work the next day.

Cons

I literally thought I had found a job I could build a career and have a tenure with. I was so wrong and still today the effects of working at Zilch has an impact on my life. In summary you are expected to work 12-15hours a day if not longer. It did not matter that you were hitting your goals and helping the company progress. When you asked for help it was ignored. Management set goal posts, yet when you achieve them they move the goal post again so you never end up progressing. That’s not even the worst of it… Management are not open with each other, I mean from the COO, to line managers and heads of departments. Which left myself in the middle between them all to take the brunt of all the backlash when they clearly didn’t agree with each other’s ideas. People hate a messenger. There was only so much I could take as now I was being targeted several times a week. To the point in one event I was called with other peers on the same call to be shouted at for something that was their fault and for something that was the COO’s doing. It was making me feel extremely low, belittled, bullied, I didn’t want to work, it was started to take over. When I let my line manager know what was happening and how long for as well as how it made me feel, they advised me to perhaps make them aware as it could be unintentional. Sure, that sounded like some good advice and perfect for me as I never want to cause anything especially at work. I decided to go with it and after the worst incident yet I still acted professionally and let the manager know how they made me feel. Unfortunately that didn’t work and in fact made it worse. So much worse. (I have the conversations still as I was so shocked). My next thought was I can perhaps approach another manager above mine to discuss what has been happening when I’m in the office so it’s face to face. They explained it’s probably because my line manager and that particular manager don’t like each other. I couldn’t actually believe what I was hearing. Not only was i dismissed in my concerns I’m being told it’s because I’m on the “wrong side”. What happened to we are all one team?! With some courage from a colleague I reached out to the COO. He never responded. Ever. With all that happened it was affecting my health which started to involve HR which also knew of my situation but never acknowledged it until it was too late. I ended up suffering for 4 months until I couldn’t take it anymore and I attempted to end my life. From this point my doctor didn’t want me to return given my deteriorated health. Even at this point did no one take responsibility for their actions. In the end I resigned and never received an apology from anyone.

Pros

> There used to be a buzz that has fallen flat. > If you want to be a “yes man” and not make any real career progression then you will do well at Zilch.

Cons

> In the weeks just before Christmas, 1/3 of the company was laid off with no prior warning, earlier this year all staff were assured that their jobs would all be safe for 18 months. > Career progression and learning development plans are promised and then never materialize. > Talented and enthusiastic people will join and leave within 3 months if not quietly terminated sooner. > Company social events have become uncomfortable occasions and are being scrapped to save money. > You will be required to work extra hours with no chance of getting paid for it if your role doesn't usually pay overtime. > Employees are told by chief members of staff to leave positive Glassdoor reviews. > USA launch has been scrapped, along with most of its employees. > Company is full of middle and micro-managers without any real experience. > Consistently oversells and underdelivers at the expense of employees, unwilling to admit hard times and leads employees into the dark.

Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience at Zilch did not reflect the culture or the values that we uphold here and we fully take your feedback on board. Zilch is very committed to its people and whilst the company has gone through changes, Leadership has done everything they can to ensure that we retain as many of our great staff as possible & keep our attrition rates below industry standard. We can assure you that career development & learning opportunities are one of our key priorities. This month we successfully launched our new performance management system which provides a central source for feedback, recognition and development, we’ve launched our OKRs- setting our strategy and goals for the new year, we've just started the performance appraisals & we have recently invested in a learning platform to further support the progression of our fantastic staff. These are all definitely being materialised at the moment. Social events are still very much supported when organised on a team level. And last week, we hosted a smashing companywide party to celebrate the festive period and reward all of our Zilchers for their hard work & commitment and we are looking forward to more celebrations in the future. Again, we regret that your experience doesn’t reflect our core values and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss with you directly and support. We would appreciate if you could please contact a member of the People Team.

Pros

great and hard working developers and some other good people from other departments! really without them, there will be no company at all.

Cons

I worked fo this company and really believed in waht they stood for but you quickly realize that they are actually disgusting and just a bunch of liars. Once you start, you are immediately warned about your productivity after a month, that is definitely not the way to set up a culture in a company, you don't want to lead by raising negative statements and trying to set up a conditioning situation the Pavlovian way or you definitely read the wrong books! They really take employees as stupid sheeps and think that because they read some books (not necessarily the right ones!) that they are leading you like sheeps. No evaluation process leading to a follow up of the employee performance nor taking care of how they feel and accompany them in their journey of the induction process which is inexistant... middle management can simply bully you to be fired based on if they like you or not and invent any pretext for it. it's just a disgusting mentality of people who arrived in the begining think themselves as being above anybody and think they are responsible of the company growth. I have never wrote such review but that is the worst company I worked for and I write this out of pure indignity and how they make you feel about yourself! Management is a complete disaster, absolutely clueless, some people have had ridiculous promotions to management level and started as junior less than 3 years ago!!! while they do not have the maturity nor the experience for it... that leads to them leading by ego. The new CTO is just a fraud, a perroquet to the CIO has no personality, no leadership, just repeating corporate statements he heard probably on movies, no semblance of intelligence or taking ownership and improving processes and calibration between Engineering Managers. I have never seen someone as imcompetent on top of that a shameless liar. The discussions on meetings with him are just ridiculous, I was ashamed to be on such meetings and listening to the way he takes decisions based on nothing but just irrational reasoning and some kind of stupid sense of humour ... Genuine advise: Don't waste your time if you are looking for a stable place to stay, evolve and learn... you can literally be fired if they don't like you in less than a month for any reason... some people have been fired for 'lack of communication' ... getting your chance to find something else somewhere else close to zero as they will give you a bad feedback!

I’m genuinely sorry that you’ve had such an experience at Zilch. You’re right in that we haven’t had a performance management system or a comprehensive onboarding programme whilst we were remote – both of which the team have worked hard to improve. We now have a performance management platform on the way and a fully immersive onboarding experience to welcome our new hires. I take your comments and feedback seriously; as an Exco team we operate with high integrity and mutual respect for each other, aligned in our vision for Zilch and collaborating with an amazing team as we grow.
