We’re celebrating our amazing colleagues who challenge self-limiting fears and inspire others to #BreakTheLoop. Anshu Bhaskaran, Lead – Corporate Legal, Star TV Network – “I did a course in CS and later went on to get a law degree. After a few years in the finance sector, I got a break at Star. When I was working on the international launch of Hotstar I realised I was pregnant. Six months down the line, going back to work wasn't easy. I was unsure if I was capable of even drafting an email anymore. How do you go back to being a corporate lawyer after being a mother to a premature baby? But it was like riding a bike. You never forget. You may have balance issues, but you eventually get back on it. Today my son is three. He has taught me a lot. I realised if I could handle this, I can handle anything. I believe in sisterhood at the workplace. Women should stand up for women. I kind of missed seeing it in the industry. But I had the firm support and backing of my leaders at Star.”
At FICCI #InnovationSummit2021, Amita Maheshwari addressed the audience about the power of innovation. “At Star and Disney India, innovation in the last one year was crucial in turning the business around. We delivered the most successful IPL season in 2020 while keeping the 250 crew in India and 300 crew in Dubai safe in the largest bio bubble. We followed strict protocols for periodic testing, engagement, and emotional well-being of our crew. Another milestone was the successful launch of Disney Hotstar in India during the peak of pandemic and working from home - a true test of resiliency and collaboration.” #LifeAtStar #ReImagineWork
For #WomensHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating our amazing colleagues who challenge self-limiting fears and inspire others to #BreakTheLoop. Caroline Steadman, Broadcast Technology R&D, Star Sports – “Leaving behind the English countryside, I came to London at 15. Alongside attending university, I also worked as an apprentice engineer at a night club for seven years and eventually became the head engineer. Sound engineering, back then, was a male-dominated field. It was a physical job that involved a lot of heavy lifting – speakers, amplifier racks, etc. Being a single mother, I remember taking my daughter to work. She would be hidden in the sling with her little ear defenders on, having her milk while I mixed the bands. Sadly, I had to leave the festival job and I was heartbroken. That's when my best friend brought me to India. Now I have a challenging and fantastic job in Star Sports Broadcast Tech R&D and I’m a proud, independent single mother. The richness of being a career woman adds to my daughter's life – she loves me coming home and telling her all about virtual reality."
