What is the hiring process like at AstraZeneca?

      AstraZeneca reviews

      Working at Astrazeneca UK

      Senior manager
      Current employee
      Cambridge, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Salary package and benefits are great

      Cons

Company culture is really negative. 1) Office attendance is individually tracked and is used for determining reward decisions (including bonus) and disciplinary corrective purposes. If you are a people manager, the attendance of your line reports may impact your bonus or result in disciplinary action if you have not actively managed your line reports in line with office attendance expectations. This is applicable only to UK, Sweden and US employees (all other markets do not have these rules!) and it does not matter if you do not have any team to meet face to face in the office. Most of people in Cambridge actually spend their days in the office (where there are not enough meeting rooms or quiet spaces) connected to Virtual calls. 2) There is no transparency. Employees are treated like kids. 3) Hiring process for internal roles is incredibly unprofessional with hiring managers ghosting the candidates and starting the hiring process before being sure what they were actually looking for.

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

This company has amazing benefits and work life balance. The job process is a bit lengthy even for internal moves.

      Cons

This mostly depends on manger you hire

      Keep cutting employee benefits

      Administrative assistant
      Current employee
      Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

It all depends on what department you work in and who you work for.

      Cons

Keep cutting employee benefits and incentives. Increasing in-office days while promoting a hybrid workplace. Parking costs are outrageous. Only hiring outside of the US for many positions. No upward movement. Their self-service model for essentially everything is confusing and frustrating and if you find human beings to ask questions to, they provide little to no consistent answers.

      Director
      Current employee
      Gaithersburg, MD
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good work-life balance Something called "secondment" allows you to work in different roles for 6-12 months.

      Cons

Unless a promotion, salary increment per year barely covers any inflation. So the salary is much lower compared to the new hire at the same role and same level

      Pros

Great work environment, supportive leaders and really good culture.

      Cons

I wish they had more new talent hiring for permanent roles.

Great pay and benefits, competitive IT culture

      Senior data engineer
      Current employee
      Cambridge, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Incredible Cambridge ecosystem with multiple offices and an amazing R&D headquarter with social hub building. AstraZeneca really taps into the academic and scientific culture surrounding Cambridge. The compensation within Global IT is very good compared to other life science organisations. The company has been experiencing a strong growth run for the past few years and has ambitious goals for the future.

      Cons

There is a competitive culture within IT that results in multiple teams vying for the same work/project and resulting in territorial teams and a distinct lack of collaboration. Many business units set up similar teams resulting in redundancy and frequent layoffs. Company is focusing on IT growth in Spain, Canada, and India; UK IT is effectively frozen hiring.

      Pros

Good reputation, good benefits, fair pay

      Cons

Almost too big. Hard to know anything about work in other departments and promotions are easier to come by if you leave and return as a new hire

      Cons

The India HR is absolutely clueless and very unstructured . They are just hiring people with out any vacancies. Very slow growth
