What is the hiring process like at State Farm?

      State Farm reviews

Very understaffed - Get experience and move on

      Claim specialist
      Current employee
      Irving, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Pretty good total rewards benefits and PTO + Holidays. It's not the best but it the non-cash benefits are pretty good if you are a new employee. Cash compensation is lower than market. Can be a great experience if you have a competent and supportive manager. And that's about it folks.

      Cons

No pension offered if hired after 1/1/2021. Enhanced 401(k) is decent but the enhanced contribution is done annually so plan your exit accordingly. You may get moved different teams which is great to showcase your skills, however have awareness you might get moved to a no-talent hack of a manager. Interview process for posting out to other internal positions even lateral moves is very disrespectful. Stop with the video interviews, have some class and culture of actually being a good neighbor and conduct in person or Teams videos and stop with the Hirevue video interviews. People are quickly realizing that they can post to other carriers with more robust benefits who value ALL the training SF has provided and they KNOW the volume of work we are capable of doing and they are paying more. And the recruitment process is more human and respectful. You will quickly realize you are doing the work of 2-3 adjusters at competitors. Stop with the application freezes. Your inability to properly staff all the claims sections/departments does not constitute a freeze on me being able to post out for lateral moves to another department. Even if you aren't blocked, literally everyone else is posting out so you will not get an offer for another department unless you have an inside track. The environment has become increasingly toxic and SF has put profits over people, in all areas. Not a very good neighbor. Oh, the regent commons office is a complete dungeon. Spend some money and update your offices and provide a nice place to work if you are forcing people to come in for this job!

      Remote claims adjuster
      Former employee
      Arizona City, AZ
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

-Remote work -Flex time -Good PTO system -Paid training -Kind Instructors -Great benefits, insurance, and retirement plans. -Great perks (if you could even find the time to use them) If you are someone who truly thrives in chaos, you may like this job.

      Cons

-Constant and spontaneous change -Poor training -Limited human resources Example: As a claims adjuster, If you are ever in need of contacting a specialist, which you often are, good luck in even reaching their voicemail, if they do answer, be prepared for an attitude and poor treatment; this is just part of the unspoken culture. -The call system is a complete mess and specialist are overworked, causing claims adjusters to be overworked, leading to the unspoken culture of nasty, petty attitudes, and bitter people. -Leadership is always expecting more than plausible and more than agreed to. Example: When my team was hired, we were told both during the hiring process and duruing training that we would be working tasks 4 hr of the day and phones 4 hrs of the day. What actually ended up happening was we worked phones 99.9% of the time and management still strongly suggested they expect us to work tasks WHILE answering phones all day and processing claims (claim calls are often complex and require active focus to ensure accurate and responsible processing) -4 hours of working phones vs. 8 hrs of working phones is a massive difference in job description vs actual job. -Unrealistic expectations Example: Each State has their own legal setup when it comes to insurance laws. Starting out, our team was working 3 unlicensed states, we learned about the different laws and regulations for each State as expected. Then, leadership decide to have every team that was working 3 unlicesed states, suddenly work 36 unlicensed states at once. -The training for this massive transition was passively incrimental, poor, and less than 1 hr a week. -This massive change would mean my team answering calls and processing claims from around the country, remembering each state has its own insurance laws and regulations, there is no way to learn all of them and the technology provided to assist in finding this vital information is VERY outdated and not intuitive to navigate at all. -Micromanagement Example: Management monitors and times EVERYTHING you do, and may question or scrutinize you on it even if the answer is obvious and the reason makes sense. On a side note; not all managers use micromanagement, but mangement switches often, so God save you if you do get one of the micromanagers.

      Pros

Easy hiring process. As long as you pass the assessment you automatically get the interview which is virtual interview with you recording yourself.

      Cons

coming into office one week out of each month.

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      I do not have one

      Cons

I worked for State Farm . My manager was abusive to me so I complained to his manager. I was retaliated against and given a low evaluation which caused me to lose 1/2 of my bonus The company took back my new hire payment - 8 months later I was put under high levels of stress & pressure held back and given the highest number of phone calls until I suffered sudden, severe and permanent hearing loss. Then I was fired for not being able to answer the phones I was paid $19.75/H

      Ux senior data specialist
      Current employee

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Flexible - +work/life balance Ability to be creative. Leadership is open to new ideas and are available to coach and guide you through projects.

      Cons

If you don't like working independently, this may not be for you. You do work as a team, but you are the only specialist handling recruitment for UX studies, coordinating with facilities management for vendor entry, taking notes for studies, screening participants, and managing the User Experience Lab. At first, it is daunting, but you eventually find your way. It just takes a moment.

      Overall, good job.

      Pros

Flexible time off. Good benefits. Fair pay. Good bonuses. Good management

      Cons

Sometimes they have unrealistic workloads and I get the feeling they would rather hire new college graduates than pay experienced employees in this day and time.

      Turnover is extremely high.

      Pros

      Great benefits and decent pay.

      Cons

The amount of claims you will work will be overwhelming once you are past training and will only get worse until you are let go. They are constantly hiring new people to replace you when you have burnt out.

      Tempe, AZ
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      Good training Pays for license

      Cons

Not full remote Pay is low compared to other companies and same position Management doesn’t have compassion Have to drink the kool aid to get ahead Internal interview process is ridiculous

Paid low salary but doing the work of 3 jobs

      Claims specialist/adjuster
      Current employee
      Irving, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Lots of time off options that the system very seldom approves; Coworkers can be pleasant when you do go in office; free gym onsite in irving; free canned soft drinks; Can work remote and only go to office 1week of the month, after 4month in-office training. Guest speakers visiting office often, even if interrupting critical training lessons. Mgr’s available to answer questions during training in office, since printing study materials and/or emailing coursework to yourself is prohibited. Easy to make new friends in the office bcuz new hire waves happen every 60days and force your training class to relocate classrooms often, and without email notice.

      Cons

Nearly 4 month training process that was scattered, unorganized and conducted with no handbook, no outline or syllabus. Required to come to office for over 3months of training that consists 90% of sitting on a Zoom call with a trainer who isnt onsite. You wont feel even 50% prepared for the job even after such a long training. Half to type notes at lightning speed in training bcuz you arent allowed to access SF study materials putside of work hours and no printing in office or emailing yourself study materials either. Upon hiring, training was initially presented as 1week per month in office, remainder of month at home but was a lie; had to train in office 25-28 days of the month and only 24hr notice of working from home days. Job entails the work of a general contractor, weather analysis expert, inbound call rep, interior design asst, jurisdictional ordinance inspector, accounts payable specialist—all for only 25/hr. Claims adjusters overloaded with hundreds of claims that either go delayed, mishandled or constantly reassigned due to adjusters being too busy with other claims. Encouraged to low-ball policyholders while they suffer through weather disasters and go without repairs/reimbursement for lost food and/or plumbing access.
