      Employment Brand Specialist Interview

      30 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Airbnb (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

Phone screen with recruiter and then was instructed to complete a homework assignment involving a company recruiting event. Was moved on to speak with the hiring manager and then invited onsite. The onsite lasted around 5 hours so it was a lengthy process. Everything was positive other than 1 of the cross-functional interviews. One of the interviewers was extremely rude and condescending while interviewing me. I think he was a lawyer, but I'm not totally sure as he never explained who he was or what he did for the company. He just dove straight into the questions like he couldn't wait to get out of there. He had his backpack with him so it seemed like he just wanted to get the interview over with so he could go home. When I gave my answers, he would question them as if they weren't good enough responses. The way he responded back made me feel small and dumb. This happened several times. One example was when he asked about a time I had been compassionate. I gave an example of a time I went above and beyond to help a coworker with a project she was struggling with. This person wasn't on my team and I had no obligation to help her, just did it because I wanted to. He said, "Well, that's just doing your job. That's not compassionate." It's not a good way to treat anyone, let alone a potential hire. I knew immediately Airbnb probably didn't have a good culture if this was how they were courting candidates. I can't imagine how they treat their employees. Look hard at who you choose to represent your company - this guy made himself and the company look terrible. I would recommend people far and away from this place.
