      Senior Java Developer Interview

      30 Jun 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sydney
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian (Sydney) in Jun 2016

      Interview

First I was contacted by a internal recruiter. The process to schedule a interview was very confusing and finally the recruiter was gone. So, I applied by the website and received a hacker rank 90 minutes test. I did 4/5. After this I was contacted by the same recruiter and this time I had a 30 minutes talk with him, regular HR questions. He told me that they would like to move on with my process, so they scheduled a Tech interview. This tech interview was with two guys. They were nice, but not very welcoming. The tech interview had three parts: 1. I had to talk about a project that I did, then they ask me tech questions about that project 2. They did what they call pair programming, but it is not: it was basically write code while they were evaluating you. I think that I was not so good, because I was a little anxious and I was far away to show my best 3. The last part was about my questions Finally, I received a feedback from the recruiter. Basically he copied the feedback test given by the tech guys. The feedback was very transparent, it was good, and as I was expecting, they thought that my live coding test was not too impressive and that I would fit as a mid level developer, not a senior one. Then I had to ask to the recruiter if it mean that I was rejected or if I could be a mid level developer. He told me that yes, I could continue the process a mid level developer. Then I had another tech interview with a tech guy that was not welcoming at all. I did another live code testing, he sent to me a java maven project and a pdf with jira “stories”. I tried to take a look to the project, but the guy started to rush me, even though I watched a video about the Atlasssian process and there they tell you to take all time that you need. I had less than 2 minutes to know the project. Then I started to code, but I was very anxious again, I think that this kind of live test is very stressful and do not evaluate the candidate very well. Finally I received a feedback that the guy agreed with the previous one that I could be a fit as a mid level and should apply again maybe in a year. So, was not clear to me again if I could be hired as a mid level or not. I ask this to the recruiter, he answered me after some hours that he was looking if I could proceed as a mid level, but never received an answer. After all, I think that my second tech interview was not following the process to be a mid level, as the recruiter said, but instead a second chance tech interview. After all, I didn’t love the process. I’m applying for Germany positions too and the germany people seem to be much more welcoming and professional. Anyway, still seems to be a good company to work.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - Hacker rank regular questions - Live code test about implementing a Connection Pool and Connection interfaces. Basically they want me to implement the Decorator pattern. I was a little nervous, so I needed some tips but finally I could implement it without they telling me that it was a Decorator pattern. They ask me too about the thread safety of my solution - Second live code test about bugfixes in existent maven/java project.

      Senior Software Developer (Java) Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian in Jul 2022

      Interview

Seven interview stages basically: 1) Recruiter call 2) Technical screening on HackerRank 3) Code design 4) Algorithms and data structures 5) System design 6) Values interview 7) Manager's interview All rounds were remote ones. I have an impression that I did great on a system design interview and DSA session, but on code design I was unable to save enough time for advanced tasks and made few code mistakes. As a result, system design was my last interview round. Interviewers and recruiter were really nice and positive, can't say anything bad, except that feedback was just like "sorry, you just not fit this position".

Interview isn't hard, they start with a very simple problem and then build it up slowly. leetcode easy is enough to prepare I found recruiter isn't very responsive and disappears for weeks after promising to call.

      Interview

I got interviewed for Atlassian Bangalore recently. First round was code pairing round. Here you will be given a Atlassian codebase and you have to fix bugs/add features to it. I could solve most of the questions but got a rejection because they were expecting me to use a predefined function which I didn't remember at that point of time so I gave alternate solution which works pretty well. Bad experience overall!!
