      Senior Management Role Interview

      Application

The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Atlassian (Mountain View, CA)

      Interview

Atlassian has been one of the tech companies that I admired most. They've built a culture and an image like no other. It's because I respected the company that the terrible experience I had throughout the recruitment process is particularly puzzling. Over a career of 15 yrs, I met and interviewed with dozens of companies, and this is the first time I ever write a negative review. I'm writing it to warn future candidates, and in the hope that someone at Atlassian might pay attention and take a look at what they're doing. I had 5 rounds of interviews for a senior role. After a phone screen with the recruiter, my first conversation with the hiring manager was set to be via video. He did not show up, with no notice, nothing. I had taken the day off, and that turned out to be a waste. It took several days to reschedule, only to have a last minute cancellation. Another wasted day off. At that point, the process had started to seem like a prank. I thought they may already have a candidate, and are keeping candidates on standby. Very uncool. I eventually got the interview, and moved through the following stages. Additional cancellations and rescheduling. But Atlassian saved the worst prank for last. I had a final round onsite, 4 interviews back to back. Highly professional meetings, great back and forth conversations, and very positive feedback. Two days later they sent an email saying that they will contact me to discuss next steps. Sounds like an offer is on the way, right? Yes, unless one is dealing with a prankster. I replied and followed up multiple times, but never heard from them again!! I got ghosted by Atlassian, a company that built its whole brand by promoting transparency and team values. I haven't received a rejection either, so until now (~ 3 months later) I might still be under consideration, but I've already accepted another offer, and certainly won't be interested in ever talking to them again. One last remark: I made it to the final round in quite a long process for a senior role. That is to say, this is how they'd treat someone they consider to be a serious candidate that would add value to the company and the team. You may want to keep this in mind if you consider joining them.
