      Applications Engineer Interview

      11 Jun 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Rochester, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bandwidth (Rochester, NY) in Apr 2018

      Interview

I had a recruiter reach out to me over LinkedIn, followed by a phone call with the recruiter. After that I had a phone call with the hiring manager asking basic questions and asking about past experiences. As other have said asked for five references (yes five references!), and then scheduled for an in person interview. They had a launch party here in Rochester and had several people in for interviews at an offsite location. They are preparing to open an office and hire for several positions and grow. It's hard to say who they really hired or if this was just a speculation interview to gauge interest and talent in the area. Some of the questions had alot of latitude as to how to answer and what they were looking for. The job description is all over the place between sysandmin, coding, DBA, and Net eng. Alot of repetitive questions were asked in all 5 interviews. I felt that 4+ hours was not a good use of time. A panel interview would have been a better use of time and people. Typical Linux sysadmin stuff, managing LAMP Scripting in Perl, PHP, Python Some questions about emergency services using 911, SMS, and Least cost routing. Some situational question about explaining issues in simple terms to a non-technical audience. Questions about routing a call over the PSTN and SIP.
