      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Beam AI in Dec 2025

      Interview

For a technical interview, I was given a very comprehensive take-home case study. The instructions didn’t include any time limit (e.g., “finish within 4 hours”). So it was effectively open-ended. Looking back, I see that as a red flag given the scope of the assignment. I spent several days on it and submitted what I believe was a strong, production-level prompt for a task that closely resembles a real problem the company is working on. After I submitted, communication stopped. Despite saying they urgently needed to hire, I didn’t receive feedback for sometime. When I asked about next steps, they sent a rejection email with a generic message and no specific feedback. I followed up politely to ask what exactly didn’t meet the bar, but I haven’t received a response. Based on this experience, I’d recommend being cautious with this company—especially when it comes to open-ended take-home assignments.

      Interview

The interview process at Beam AI lacks the basic respect candidates deserve. The process involved an initial recruiter call, followed by a case study that took roughly 4–5 hours to complete — unpaid work that required genuine effort and technical depth. I was then invited to a 30-minute technical interview that ran to over an hour, covering the case study in detail along with AI workflows and agent experience. The conversation itself was engaging and I left feeling positive about how it went. A week later, I received a generic template rejection with no specifics. I responded politely and asked for feedback — a reasonable request given the time invested — and was simply ignored. The work itself was interesting and I have no issue with a rigorous process. What I do take issue with is asking candidates to invest 6+ hours of serious, unpaid effort and then not extending the basic courtesy of a few lines of constructive feedback when it doesn't work out. That's not a resource constraint, it's a culture signal. If you're considering applying here, go in with realistic expectations about how your time and effort will be valued.
