The interview process at this company was quite different from what I've experienced with other agencies. During my interview, four employees joined the call and asked standard interview questions, but the interaction felt very superficial. It seemed like they were just going through a checklist without really engaging in the conversation. They would ask a question, not follow up, and after a few awkward seconds of silence, another team member would ask the next question. It lacked the natural flow of a conversation that I've encountered in nearly every other interview I've had, even ones where the same amount of people were interviewing me.
Even when they asked a "fun" question at the end, it was delivered in a monotone and disinterested voice. For a company that claims to have a strong background in journalism, their interviewing techniques didn't reflect that at all. The overall vibe was that the team members didn't enjoy working together or even being there.
They also require a writing test, which makes me wonder if they prioritize test results over evaluating a candidate's personality, interest, and background.
Although they eventually got back to me, it took well over a month, which is unusually long for a small company in my experience. They informed me that they weren't taking on any interns for the period I applied for, which was frustrating but understandable. On the plus side, scheduling the interview was straightforward and easy.
