I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Carter's My Plumber (Greenwood, IN) in Mar 2026
Interview
I had a video interview with their hiring manager which went very well, not intense at all. Very laid back. I got asked to come for an in person interview, filled out 1 page front/back of a questionnaire for general info, references, etc.
Then I sat for a little while, a gentleman showed up and I sat down with him and the hiring manager who I originally interviewed with. It was fairly conversational, they were pleasant and honest about the job and its difficulties. They asked a fair bit of questions about my resume and history, seemed to go very well, had some laughs, we shook hands and I departed.
They said they'd get back to me in a week or so with some insurance information, I reached out about a week later to inquire about the status of my application, they got back to me and said another couple weeks before they decide. I reached out about 3 weeks later, and the hiring manager let me know that they were reevaluating adding any apprentices at this time, but to stay in touch and that she'd let me know when things change. She was courteous in communication, but I would have appreciated a more proactive form of communication on their end. Not mad about it, that's just the only thing I can think of that I would suggest they improve on.
As an addendum, the man I spoke with there did mention that the people who train apprentices are hit or miss regarding their desire to teach, saying about 2/3 of them enjoy it and are good to work with, but the others do not like it and implied that some can be difficult or unpleasant. That was a red flag for me, as I would hope that management at any company would address issues like that as soon as they're identified. It was understandable but also kind of concerning to hear that if the people who do the teaching didn't like me, I would get fired as I wouldn't have anyone willing to teach me. I think I'd be fine there, just a heads up for others that if you aren't easy to get along with or willing to deal with some attitude at times from certain individuals, maybe not the best spot for you.
Overall, not bad. If they reach out with an offer and I'm not somewhere better suited for me, I'd likely accept it.
