First round: Onsite group interview with around a dozen other candidates. A group of junior consultants facilitate the events. It begins with a 30min presentation outlining what Chartwell does. Jumps into an hour-long group case. You and the ~dozen candidates are tasked with reading a prompt about a problem occurring in a manufacturing process. Working together, you must find out the root cause of the process and present it to the interviewers. They're mainly looking to see how well you interact with co-workers & the quality of your suggestions. As a group, you can ask 3 questions to the interviewers. I don't think it matters if you solve the case correctly. Then moves onto 2 separate 15min quizzes, one focused on math, the other focused on mechanics. Then you have 45min to individually read and answer questions to a case concerning another manufacturing line. Very industrial engineering centered. Asking about throughput, cycle time, capacity ect. After there's a catered lunch. Then one on one interviews. The first 30min one on one gives you the chance to discuss the answers to the individual case. The second one on one begins by asking you how you felt the group interview went, what could be improved, what went well, ect. Asks a brain teaser (how many/much of something in a place) and a couple of standard fit questions.
Second round: 2 hr event with partners and a more senior consultant. They have you go through another case, again very industrial/manufacturing engineering-focused. Stick to the basics of inputs & outputs. Basic calculations. After the case they ask you why you want to work at Chartwell, what are the most important attributes of a Chartwell consultant, describe a complex project you worked on in detail. They have you figure out how to work through the mechanics of an unknown problem (how does this complex mechanical system work) and then give you some time for questions. The second round is certainly more rigorous as you're placed directly under pressure by partners.
I was not given a good impression of the company during either of the interviews. They are a small, new company, trying to carve out their space in the industrial/mfg sector with brute force. Chartwell expects a level of commitment akin to the big firms (MBB) yet will not pay well (in the 60k range base!) or provide other incentives to make the position worth it. During the second round, one of the partners had a foul mouth (swearing during the interview) which I found very offputting.
