An Inefficient and Unprofessional Hiring Process
After four months in the selection process for the HR Director position, during which I had four interviews with a total of eleven people, the company informed me that I was the chosen candidate and invited me on-site for the presentation of the job offer. However, the meeting turned out to be yet another interview, with no actual offer presented. Two days later, I discovered that the selection process had been reopened through a headhunter, without any prior communication. When I confronted them, they initially denied it, only to later admit that they had indeed reopened the search without considering the impact this would have on me. The following day, they went back on their hiring commitment.
Main Issues:
Lack of Transparency: Failing to communicate the reopening of the selection process and initially denying it damages the company’s credibility.
Excessively Long and Ineffective Selection Process: Four months and eleven interviewers, only to change direction, reveal an unstructured and inefficient hiring process.
Broken Commitments: Telling a candidate they have been chosen and then withdrawing the offer is unacceptable, especially for a senior HR position.
Lack of Consideration for the Candidate: Not acknowledging the impact of these actions reflects a company culture that does not value people.
Conclusion
This selection process was an example of poor management, unprofessionalism, and lack of ethical standards. A company that conducts hiring this way not only risks losing top talent but also damages its reputation in the market.
