      Associate Interview

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Community Science

      Interview

Grueling interview process. It was 5 hours long and was I asked to prepare a 20 minute presentation for the staff. All interviews were one on one. Most of the interviewers asked standard questions. A couple of the interviewers had more difficult situational questions that seemed to be more psychological in nature. One of the interviewers seemed to be more focused on the Ipad than on me--always holding it up closer to the level of his face. Also, during my presentation at one point he held it up in front of his face. Afterwards I mentioned this odd behavior to a friend, who pointed out that that behavior is consistent with videotaping on an Ipad since the camera is at the top and you have to hold it up to get the right angle. It's still a mystery to me. Either he was videotaping or definitely pre-occupied with something on his ipad other than simple interview questions. Either way, it felt extremely rude. Also, I was required to take a personality and cognitive test. I was surprised by this as I thought this was something used by bigger and more corporate organizations. All in all, the interview process raised some serious concerns about the management of the organization, even though they appear to have a great reputation for good solid work.

      Question 1

I was asked to complete a personality and cognitive assessment test. The tests were unexpected and the link emailed to me the night before the interview.

I am very sorry that your experience was so difficult. We greatly appreciate the time it took you for interviews and the presentation. The time we put in to the selection process reflects the care that we put into employee development. It is a question of fit and with the investment we make in staff, we want to make sure we have the best person available who will be happy in this environment and can produce great work. I will admit to being the person with the Android tablet (not an IPad). You were absolutely not being video recorded. I want to deeply apologize if I was coming off as rude. You had my full attention. I was reading the interview questions and writing my notes on the tablet. To do that, I use the tablet in the portrait position (camera is on the side on an Samsung tablet and was blocked by my tablet cover). There was a glare, so I was trying to position the screen in order to see my questions. I must have raised it over my face. Again, I am very sorry and appreciate the feedback. While we are a small company, we use the best practices available to companies of any size. We use psychological cognitive tests as well as the input of employees at different levels to inform our decision. The presentation helps our staff learn from you (such as your interesting dissertation findings) as well as seeing how well you present, an important skill in this business. I want to thank you again for your time. I recognize it is a lot, but we have found it so vital from both the employee and employer perspective for increasing the chances of a successful relationship.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Community Science

      Interview

The position I was interviewing for was eliminated before I moved forward in the process, which I was told was five parts, including multiple interviews and a required presentation. While I was told I would be updated about my standing, this was not true, as I had to reach out multiple times before learning they were no longer hiring.
