I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Dollar General (Apple Creek, OH) in Dec 2018
Interview
Standard retail-associated questions you'd get at any other similar job. Sent an application (online-only), didn't get a response for several weeks, called them one day and the manager asked me to come in for an interview the next day (poor application management). Had a single interview about basic skills, then waited another week for background check.

Question 1
Strengths and weaknesses, how you'd respond to customer complaints, etc.
I interviewed at Dollar General (Roanoke Rapids, NC)
Interview
The interview process was laid back and I felt comfortable to ask the hiring manager questions. I was respected and understood everything the manager was saying. I went into the back and we sat down and she told me about my position. She made it very clear as to what I had to do. She let me ask my questions that I had written before.

Question 1
The one thing they asked me was why I wanted the job.
I applied online through the website and the managed called me. I scheduled an interview over the phone. I was taken to the office where she asked me some questions (I don't remember them) and I handed her my resume. She basically hired me there, I think.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Dollar General (Gower, MO) in Aug 2025
Interview
They told me my responsibilities and I was hired. The only question I was asked is "Do you have any questions?" Most definitely the easiest interview of my life. I got hired for showing up.
