      Tax Associate Interview

      30 Nov 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at EY (Boston, MA) in Nov 2018

      Interview

First applied for a position in Audit for Winter 2019, and took part in an one-way interview. Two weeks later, was told that an opportunity actually arose for a position in Tax (Financial Services sector) Winter 2019. HR told me that they had to make a decision quickly, and implied that it was pretty certain I would get the job. Was immediately scheduled for two 30-minute final round video interviews the next day. First interview started five minutes late. The interviewer was telecommuting and was having technical difficulties, so had to have a phone interview instead. Interviewer said her name, said this was a behavioral interview, and dived right in to questions. The interviewer did not view my previous one-way interview, and didn't even have my resume. Her first two questions were exactly the same as the ones I had on my one-way interview. I tried to answer differently since I assumed she knew my previous answers (that was a mistake). The interviewer tried to tell me I wasn't interested in tax since I applied to audit first. She also bashed an EY employee who came over from PwC because she wasn't used to the 'teaming' at EY. This first interview felt like an interrogation, and the interviewer pressed for more and more detail for each question. The second thirty-minute interview was a very pleasant conversation, via video. The interviewer took the time to introduce himself and describe what it was like to work in tax. His questions were slightly more high-level than the first interviewer, as it was a final round interview. Did not receive any word from HR later in the day, even though the recruiter said she would contact me. Had to call the recruiter myself, and was told that I would not be getting the job, but EY wished me all the best.
