I applied through an employee referral. I received an email looking to set up a phone interview within five days of applying. The interview process included two phone interviews. One was with a human resources person and one was with a consultant. The interview questions were very good and the interviewers did a great job of making certain they answered all of my questions. After the two phone interviews, two weeks went by before they reached out to me to come in for a final round in-person interview. The first interview was measuring fit and the second interview was measuring my skill set. I felt like the interviews went very well. Some of the questions were very easy and others were very hard. The final part of the interview was a case in Excel. The directions were extremely confusing. Once I figured out they wanted me to build a default rate curve, I was able to quickly put together a pivot table and produce the answer. About a week and a half after the interview, I got a call with an offer that was very disappointing on two levels. First, taking the job would have been a lateral to downward move for me based on compensation. Second, they offered me a title of "Analyst". This was insulting on many levels. My existing title was much more impressive. The other frustrating part about the title was that I actually applied for the position of "Financial Data Analyst". When I asked about the title, they told me there was no such thing as a "Financial Data Analyst" at their firm. They just used the title to attract candidates. After I heard that, I knew there was no way I was going to work for this company.
