I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Folk App (Paris) in Apr 2023
Interview
I recently went through an interview process that left me feeling disappointed. The format of the interview was supposed to involve a 30-minute demo of their app, followed by questions, and then it would be my turn to showcase a product or project I worked on. However, the company's demo went on for 40 minutes, leaving me with no time to ask questions as I was supposed to. Furthermore, the app didn't fully work, and they didn't discuss any technical aspects of the product. When it was my turn, I had only 20 minutes to demo and answer questions, which put me under pressure to rush through my presentation. Unfortunately, the interviewers only asked two simple, non-technical questions, which left me feeling unchallenged and underutilized. To add insult to injury, I was subsequently rejected for the position with feedback that they were expecting more technical expertise from me. I was confused by this feedback, given that they had emphasized focusing on the product and architecture during the interview. Despite not getting the job, I felt like I had provided the company with a lot of free consultancy by giving them guidance and asking key questions about their product. Overall, the interview process was disappointing, and I hope that the next company I interview with will be more effective and provide a better experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
30min where you present a challenging project you worked on to us. It has to be something you have worked on professionally and resonates with folk in some way or on some use cases. We don't recommend presenting a personal project as it usually does not face the same issues and is of a smaller scale. Things to focus on: what Was the project and what was the challenge? how was it done? what were the unknowns? what are the take aways?
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Folk App (Paris) in Apr 2023
Interview
The first interview was with a recruiter about the company and my role. The second one was with the eccentric founder. He asked if I had any questions, and when I asked, he did not answer and proceeded with his company story. That was the first red flag indicating that he is indifferent. Then they invited me for the third interview, which was supposed to be a demo from them about the folk.app and another demo from my side about a project related to their app. When the time came, he did not show up and instead wrote an email asking to reschedule. I agreed. During the third interview, they demoed the app, which did not fully work, and the design was a copy-paste of Notion. I demoed my project, and they did not have questions because as it turned out, they did not understand. I tried to figure that out, but they were indifferent and ended the process
