The recruiter set up an interview and we talked for 30 minutes about my background, with extensive questions about positions, etc. Very good recruiter interview. I am overqualified for the position and so it was a relatively easy interview. However, after the interview I received an email with the following text: "Thank you for your interest in Garmin. Unfortunately, Garmin is unable to offer you employment at this time." which is one of the most toxic replies I've received in 30 years of interviewing, no pursuing other candidates, etc. However, I have worked at Garmin before and this is par for the course, they underpay their employees and their hiring process is so outdated and toxic, and the culture seems like something from the 1970s. For example, they still ask about GPA in job applications, which in this day and age is so outdated, particularly for experienced positions where school is irrelevant for candidates with 20 years of experience. I will keep an eye on LinkedIn and see who ultimately got the position to compare against my skills to see if there is age or another form of bias in their candidate selection process or with the interviewer as I was highly qualified for the position and got a simple form email rejection after one conversation with a recruiter.
