I applied online. I interviewed at General Optical Council
Interview
The interview process was professional and fairly structured. After submitting my application, I was invited to an interview within a reasonable time. The interview was conducted by a panel and focused on competency-based questions.
They asked about my previous experience, how I handle challenging situations, and my understanding of the role and the work of the General Optical Council. There were also questions testing communication skills, teamwork, and ethical awareness.
The atmosphere was formal but polite. The questions required specific examples using past experiences, and some required quick thinking. Overall, the interview felt average in difficulty, but strong preparation on competency examples and knowledge about the organisation would be very helpful.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at General Optical Council in Jun 2024
Interview
Interviewed around a month after submitting my application online.
One hour online interview with three members of staff consisting of 9 very long competency based questions which I felt was excessive.
Didn't get the role but the email from HR stated that I could request detailed feedback.
I have requested this twice now and after 6 weeks have been completely ignored.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at General Optical Council (London, England) in Feb 2024
Interview
Initially had a telephone call with HR to arrange an interview. I was advised both verbally and via email that I would be emailed a test 15 mins before my virtual interview. I would need to email the test back and it would follow with a 45min interview.
The organisation was shambolic. My test wasn't emailed to me online, meaning I'd end up late for my interview. I emailed hr to chase. The test was emailed to me out the blue 12 mins late. I was told to jokn the interview in 15 mins. I was on the phone trying to call hr in vein when the test was emailed to me. The hr assistant then called me twice halfway through a timed assessment to ask me when i can join the interview. The call was around 2.5 mins eating into my assessment time. It just made the whole interview process unnecessarily stressful.
Also, i was initially informed by email that its a written test. On the day, the assessment instructions noted the assessment needs to be verbslly presented.
